Easter Lesson Ideas

How about we start off with something great for Easter? Below are some great ideas of what to do for each SPE!

 

Arts & Crafts

 

Paper plate Easter Bunny! You can do this one as a group, or if you have enough materials, go ahead and have each kid make their own! It usually helps if you have quite a bit of materials in your lesson to talk about, so I like to try to have up to at least 6-8 materials.

Materials could include: Paper plates, google eyes, cotton balls, paper, scissors, glue, and a crayon or marker or non-items.

 

Shop

Easter Egg Chick! ILP usually likes the shop activities to "do" something. This could actually be considered a Shop or Arts & Crafts lesson. The kids will have fun watching the egg open and close on this little chick. Remember to try to have at least 6-8 materials to talk about in your lesson. Materials could include: Different colors of paper, scissors, brads, google eyes, marker or crayon, stickers, glitter, or non-items.

Gym

Easter Egg Hunt! Why not stick with the good old fashioned Easter Egg Hunt? If you don't have actual Easter Eggs to hide, cut some colorful ones out of paper. On each egg, put something like, "10 jumping jacks" or "5 push-ups". Before you take them on the hunt, see if you can find pictures of each workout and go over them with the kids so that they know what they are. Go on the hunt as a group, when an egg is found, have the kids do the workout stated on the egg before finding another! Materials could include: Picture of a push up, picture of a jumping jack, picture of a sit-up, picture of a squat, colored paper eggs, jump rope(have all the kids hold onto it while on the hunt so they aren't running all over) or non-items.

Kitchen

Decorate any Easter shape with some marshmallows! If marshmallows are not available to you, no worries. Any kind of small candy will do. You could use any type of food really. Instead of on paper, it might be best to use paper plates. You can do this as a group project and let each kid take a turn adding to the picture, or have each kid do their own. Just make sure to control the materials if you do that. Take a marker to each plate and draw some different designs. A bunny, an egg, a chick, a basket, etc. That will help you with prepping for the lesson. Materials may include: Marshmallows, paper plates, pictures of the designs (ex. picture of a bunny to show, or egg, or basket), peanut butter(to help the marshmallows stick to the plate, a knife, pom-poms, google eyes and/or non-items.

Games

Pin the tail on the bunny! Kids love this game! You don't even have to use a bunny, you could do pin the feather on the chick. Because this doesn't use very many materials, I would recommend getting pictures of regular Easter objects and talking about them with the kids before the game is played. Materials may include: Bunny, different tails, tape, blindfold, picture of a chick, an egg, a basket, carrots, etc. Don't forget those non-items as well.

Drama

One of my favorite things to teach drama with was a story book to follow. Search your supplies for any stories about Easter, if you have none, you could write a story yourself, include pictures of actions for the kids to copy. Above is a great prop you could use for a bunny, you could also include a basket, eggs, candy, etc. Have the kids act out going on a egg hunt, or if you have them act out your story. Materials may include: Bunny ears, storybook, basket, eggs, pictures of Easter objects, candy and/or non-items.
